Catskill Mountain Living in Windham, NY
The Town of Windham in Greene County may indeed have it all. It's a diverse resort and rural community in a mountain valley surrounded by the high peaks of the northern Catskill Mountains -- a "land in the sky" where family farms coexist with a growing artistic community, and one of New York State's premier ski attractions.
A four-season vacation destination, Windham offers first-class winter sports facilities, legendary trout fishing, cool summer fun 2,000 feet above the heat and humidity of summer's dog days, spectacular fall foliage, and forests filled with deer, black bear, and game birds.
During the summer, Windham Mountain is home to the only American stop on the mountain biking World Cup circuit and the accompanying bike festival that runs Thursday through Sunday. Every October the town plays host to the Autumn Affair festival, a two day event featuring food, music, vendors and of course, the gorgeous fall foliage the Catskill Mountains are known for.
In addition to activities at Windham Mountain, the Windham area is home to several stunning mountain golf courses including Windham Country Club and Christman’s Windham House. After a long day on the greens, players can kick back and relax at Mulligan’s Pub or enjoy a tasting at Windham Vineyards and Winery.
Those looking for more adventure and activities can visit nearby Hunter, NY, home to Hunter Mountain and enjoy a plethora of additional activities. To the south sits Catskill Park and Kaaterskill Wild Forest, both protected New York State treasures. A smidge further to the south brings travelers to another classic Catskill mountain ski hill, Belleayre.
